First half-century for Dan the Man

A CHANDLER’S Ford teenager has compiled his first half-century break less than two years after taking up competitive snooker.

Dan Sykes (pictured), who hadn’t made a 30 until three months ago, said it felt “really good” to pass this major milestone.

The 14-year-old went on a remarkable run of 54 in the third frame of a 3-0 victory over Testwood WMC league player Gary Tomkins in the Open Series at Chandler’s Ford SC.

“It was tough but I got it in the end,” he said.

Sykes, who is now targeting three figures, nearly had the perfect day.

In the morning, he took over top spot in the Eastleigh & District Under-18 Premier League. However, following his 54 in the afternoon, he let slip a 2-0 semi-final lead against Charlie Gray (Shirley) and lost 3-2.
