First trophy for Petty

AUSTEN Petty, who made his Cuestars debut this season, has picked up the first major trophy of his career.

The new young potter has emerged from Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club’s junior leagues, which are a breeding ground for some of the country’s finest young players.
A little over a year since making his competitive debut, Petty clinched his first Eastleigh & District Under-13 League title.
Spike Hull, 13, finished runner-up, seven points behind.
Petty, who attends Cresswood College and lives in Boyatt Wood, near Southampton, said: “It got quite hard in the middle (of the season) because we were both beating each other.”
The 12-year-old is currently joint 19th on the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Bronze Tour, just three points off a top-16 spot and a place in the play-offs.
He said he wants to take his snooker career “as far as possible”.
Later that morning, in the under-18 league, Petty chalked up a personal best 27 break.
