Hunter: five-time champion

DEFENDING champion John Hunter (left) wrapped up his fifth Cuestars South Wilts Snooker League title with a chat about cricket.

The 45-year-old from Andover cruised past Salisbury’s Trevor Pittman 4-1 to notch up his ninth straight win since the start of the season.
“Neither Trevor nor I played to our potential,” said the newly-crowned champion. “It was a bit of a dull game, really – although we did have a nice chat about cricket.”
Second-placed Pittman had needed to win 5-0 to stand any chance of overhauling the pre-season favourite.
In other matches at Salisbury Snooker Club, Paul Burt (Britford) took the first frame against Steve Ashton, who “pinched” the equaliser and won the next three.
Ashton (Shrewton) climbed to third after chalking up his highest break of the season in the fifth frame of the 4-1 victory. Although he did admit to a fluke in the middle of the 51.
In a re-arranged match, Burt closed out his season by climbing two places to fifth after seeing off Stuart Dreyer (Salisbury) 3-2
Dreyer took the opener with a run of 31. Burt secured the decider on the green.
Dreyer said: “We both went for our shots and relaxed our safety game, which made the games quick and enjoyable.”
Results: Jeremy Dawson 3 James Bolton 2, John Hunter 4 Trevor Pittman 1, Steve Ashton 4 Paul Burt 1. Re-arranged game: Paul Burt 3 Stuart Dreyer 2.
