William Thomson claims second title

CUESTARS Silver Tour player William Thomson (pictured) has secured his second successive school-holiday competition title at Chandlers Ford Snooker Club.

The Christmas Cup champion, who celebrated his ninth birthday the previous day, finished the five-day Ken Jones May Half-Term Cup top of the rankings.

Tyler Beer had a storming final day, winning all seven of his round-robin matches to take the Day 5 prize and the overall runner-up spot. Asten Sahota was third, one point ahead of Dylan Beer.

There were personal achievements to celebrate every day.

Seven-year-old Lewis Thomson smashed Level 2 of the Cuestars Academy on the opening day.

Asten Sahota recorded a personal best billiards break of 26 on Tuesday.

Two new high snooker breaks were chalked up on Wednesday. William was never out of position as he crafted a personal best 54 break and Dylan put together a seven-ball 23 in his final match.

And it continued in Thursday’s cricket session. William Thomson knocked in a personal best run of 50 using his beautiful new G-Cue that had been lovingly crafted by the renowned Havant-based cue-maker Gavin Mengham and Asten weighed in with a 30.

To end another remarkable week, Caden Read passed one of snooker’s major milestones by compiling a 30 break against England international Oliver Sykes on the final afternoon.
