2017/18 season preview

SUMMER holidays are a distant memory and it’s back-to-school week.

But snooker players across the south will be cheered by the thought of the new Cuestars season kicking off on Sunday (September 10).

Waterlooville Sports Bar has the honour of hosting the opening legs of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold, Silver and Bronze Tours on the club’s first birthday.

This is a new venue for us but may players and parents will already know the owners.

Originally Waterlooville Snooker Club, which shut its doors five years previously, it re-opened on September 10, 2016, after being totally refurbished by Suzy and Steve Wilson, whose 13-year-old son Jamie competes on the Gold Tour and reached the final of the 2016 English Under-14 Championship.

It already has a thriving junior section, which runs from 4.30-6.30pm every Wednesday with World Snooker coach Tim Dunkley. And it will soon be starting another under-19 league at the same times on Mondays.

The club boasts ten snooker tables separated by a glass partition from a large bar area that includes five pool tables, dartboards and a couple of televisions.

Easily reached just off the A3, it is located on the Aston Road Industrial Estate and has ample free car parking and air conditioning.

Players are urged to renew their memberships online to save queues on the day.

If you are running late, ring the club on 02392 256808 before 10.30am. The postcode is PO7 7XG.

The event is sponsored by Vortex Property Management, who also want to raise the awareness of Sightsavers, an international charity that works in developing countries to treat and prevent avoidable blindness.
