Hat-trick for Mears

ALDERSHOT’S Ryan Mears has claimed a third straight Cuestars Under-21 Premier Series tournament win.

The 18-year-old rankings leader posted breaks of 90, 86, 77, 58 and 55 in the fourth event of the season at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Mears, who lost to Mark Green 3-0 in the round-robin group stages, defeated the home player 3-0 in the final.

With two to play in Gloucester, in April, and Bracknell, in May, last season’s runner-up leads Ollie Tydeman (Chandler’s Ford) by 21 points.

Mears is ranked 19th on the English Association of Snooker & Billiards Premier Junior Tour for the country’s top-48 under-21s. He is based at Rileys, Aldershot.

Top spot for Tallentire

DANIEL Tallentire’s third final on the bounce has taken the Trowbridge cueman to top spot in the Cuestars Under-21 Open rankings.

A 3-1 victory over Swindon’s Sam Weekes in the event-six final at Salisbury Snooker Club took Tallentire past long-time leader Luke Haines (Cardiff).

Second-placed Haines, from Cardiff, picked up valuable ranking points in the Plate following a 3-2 first-round exit to Dean Matthews (Reading). He defeated Eastleigh’s Lee Roling 2-0 in the final.

The last two tournaments in the series are in Gloucester, in April, and Bracknell, in May.

Joe, over the Moon

SWINDON’S Joe Moon ripped up the form book to clinch a first Cuestars Under-15 Open tournament victory at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Moon, who has never been past the quarter-finals in previous events, did not concede a frame to reach the final.

A 3-2 final victory over second-placed Sam Streames (Yate) took Moon up to ninth in the rankings.

Streames beat ranking leader Bradley Chappell (Green Baize, Bournemouth) 2-0 in the last four.

Eastleigh’s Lee Bell, winner at Bournemouth in January, defeated Luke Wandowski (Green Baize, Bournemouth) in the Plate final.

Back-to-back victories for Lloyd

BACK-to-back victories have taken Gosport’s Mark Lloyd storming to the top of the Cuestars Under-12 Open rankings.

After collecting a first ever winners’ trophy at his home club, Stoke SC, last month, Lloyd proved his class with victory on his travels to Salisbury.

The young potter defeated Swindon’s Oliver Parsons in the event-six final.

Cameron Holt, Plate runner-up in Gosport, went one better in Salisbury.

The last two tournaments in the series are in Gloucester, in April, and Bracknell, in May.
