Second Bronze win for Channel Islander Greier

CHANNEL Islander Archie Greier sunk a “nerve-racking” re-spotted black with the long rest to claim his second winner’s trophy on the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour.

The nine-year-old from Jersey moved up to second place in the rankings after the 2-1 victory over Freddie Morrison, 14, in the final of the fourth leg at Woking Snooker Centre.

Morrison (Ashford), who earlier in the day made his highest break of 33 in only his second tournament on the south of England’s junior circuit, trailed by 22 points with 22 on in the third frame.

Reflecting on the tricky re-spotted black, Greier said: “The pockets were so tight, I thought I had missed.”

The young talent is helped back home by Aaron Canavan, the 2018 World Seniors champion.

Greier said recent work with Canavan included: “Mainly taking the right balls on, not going for any rash shots and making sure I know all the safety shots.”

Debutant Seth Charters (Harlow) and Emilio Bassili (East Barnet), competing in his second event, made the semi-finals.

Jack Squires (Gosport) remains top of the rankings despite losing 2-0 in the last-16 to Bassili. Noah Gartell (Isle of Wight) is third.

The event sponsored by Woking Snooker Centre attracted another excellent turnout of 26.

Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon, hosts the fifth leg of ten on Sunday, January 7.
