So what did you do last weekend?

ALDERSHOT hotshot Ryan Mears lost in the semi-finals of the English Six-Reds Championship but qualified for the next stage of the English Amateur Championship during two long days on the green baize.

The 26-year-old (pictured) was feeling good after winning an English eight-ball pool tournament and £240 at Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, the previous Saturday.

His weekend potting marathon kicked off with the last-16 of the national six-reds competition at Barratts Club, Northampton.

Mears, runner-up in 2012, progressed through the group stages and the quarter-finals but was knocked out 5-3 in the last-four by the EASB’s former competitions director John Hartley, who played extremely well.

It was nearly 9pm. Mears – who declared himself well satisfied with the day – had now been awake for more than 27 hours, a result of his sleep pattern being disrupted while reducing the medication for his previously reported mental breakdown.

The following day, Mears, who competes on the Cuestars Championship Tour, was back at Frames Sports Bar for the London and South East qualifier for the English Amateur Championship.

After a 4-3 victory over Lewis Frampton, Mears trailed Ashley Beal 3-1 and needed a snooker but pulled another 4-3 out of the bag.

He then booked a place in the last-16 south to be held at The Crucible Sports & Social Club, Newbury, in April, with a 4-1 win against Peter Devlin.

This match finished after 8pm.

Another relaxing weekend for the Mears family.
