Cue beauty

JORDAN Winbourne could be heading to Parris next summer.

The 14-year-old (pictured left), based at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club, has taken his first step towards winning a John Parris cue and case.

That’s the prize on offer to the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Gold Tour champion at the end of the 2010/11 season.

And Winbourne, favourite to successfully defend last year’s title, staked an early claim with victory in event one of eight at Salisbury Snooker Club.

The England international knocked in a 62 break in the second frame of a 3-1 victory over club-mate Kevin Impett in the final.

The second leg of the eight-tournament series is at Jesters, Swindon, on November 7.

Winfield takes Silver honours

TROWBRIDGE’S teenage snooker ace Daniel Winfield took the honours on the first leg of the Cuestars South of England Under-21 Silver Tour.

The 16-year-old opened the new campaign with a 3-1 victory over Ryan Gavin in the final at Salisbury Snooker Club.

Winfield, who finished fifth last season and is based at Player’s in Westbury, also slotted in the day’s highest break of 37.

He topped his round-robin group, defeated Gosport’s Mark Lloyd 2-0 in the quarter-finals and Basingstoke’s Carl Sidey 2-0 in the last-four.

It was an excellent Silver Tour debut for Gavin. The High Wycombe lad romped to victory in the Bronze rankings in 2009/10 and was certainly not outclassed as he stepped up a level.

Gavin saw off Swindon’s Joshua Lee 2-1 in the last-eight and Dean Matthews by the same score in the semis.
