Squires on song in Swindon

JACK Squires may be a long way from home but he ends the first half of the Cuestars Under-21 Bronze Tour campaign with a commanding lead.

The 18-year-old from Gosport collected his second winner’s trophy of his debut season in the fifth leg at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.

In fact, he didn’t drop a single frame all day.

Squires, whose first success was in the third leg in Chandler’s Ford in November, defeated 12-year-old Noah Gartell 2-0 in the final.

If Squires does hold on to top spot, he will be the first player based at Stoke Snooker Club to win a Bronze title since Olly Gibbs landed the 2014 championship.

Gartell (Isle of Wight) moves up to second place in the rankings.

Oliver Donnelly (Wandsworth) had his best ever run, reaching the last-four before going down 2-0 to Squires.

Gartell beat third-placed Bradley Jones (Gosport) by the same score in the second semi.

The event was sponsored by Don Rogers Sports (www.donrogerssports.co.uk) and Jesters Snooker Club (www.jesterssnooker.co.uk).

Frames Sports Bar, Coulsdon, hosts the sixth leg of ten on Sunday, January 28.
